Generation 1988

Introduction

This special issue of Generation marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of The University of Windsor. It also celebrates the twenty-fifth year that young creative writers and editors have published an annual collection of their best work. It is fitting, therefore, that part of this gathering be retrospective. Like the individual poems and stories within, the whole reflects continuity and order- qualities which creative imaginations allow us to perceive in a world which often appears quite otherwise.

Several of the earlier generation of writers included here have become well known. At least two have achieved national distinction. There is no reason to doubt that some of the new writers published for the first time in this issue will also go on to make significant contributions to Canadian culture.

A twenty-fifth anniversary is a time for pause. It is an occasion to consider present realities in the light of those past. But, of course, it is also a time to look ahead with freshness and imagination. This Generation, like the University it represents, intends to do both.
