Generation 1998
Foreword
Each year Generation proclaims itself as in various ways distinct from its predecessors. The writers assert their own voices, the volume, with its range of visual art and writing in different genres, assumes a unity or heterodoxy that reflects on the community that brings forth each year’s Generation. For me, over the five years that I have watched Generation as the chair of English, I have enjoyed the differences, the nuances that are themselves expressions of our university and our department. The editorial board has succeeded in creating a professional journal, well-conceived in design and superior in the quality of its contents.
Generation 98 has mature voice to it; its writing seems thoughtful and fresh; together the prose and verse convey a tone of reflection different from other years. I’ve enjoyed this new Generation, and the contributors and editorial board should take pride in their fine work. As Generation nears the end of its fourth decade of publication, I thank all who have worked on this to help give voice to the imaginative spirit of creative writing at the University of Windsor.
